It is weird, *BSD use gcc as well I presume. However, I don't know
whether the OS has support for using SSE and/or 3DNow. Finally, it may
also be that 3dNow on your K6 is not the same as on the Athlon. To test
whether it is the OS or the processor you'd have to try it using Linux
(or even Windows). But maybe the documentation for FreeBSD will tell you
whether 3DNow is supported...
